DIY Photo Boards

The diy photo boards are super simple. They are cute to lean on a shelf, hang on the wall or gift to someone special! I love making them as gifts and making personalized gift baskets up for loved ones, and with the photo board I can add a favourite photo for them. They can be gifted for pretty much anything! From bridal showers to baby showers and even birthdays.

First step: I take a cut of wood that’s 8x8 it fits perfectly the regular 4x6 photos. But if you know the size of your photo is larger make sure the board is roughly 2-3 inches larger so you have room to add the decorations.

Next is to prep the wood! I start by lightly sanding the board on all edges. This just gives it a smooth finish. Once you have sanded make sure to wipe off all the dust. Next choose a stain colour. I went a little darker with this one since I was going to dry brush it to give a more rustic look.

If you have stained before great! If not, just use a paint brush, brush across the whole face and then with a rag wipe off the access stain. And repeat on all sides. I recommend gloves for this!

Once the stain is dry this is where you choose to leave that as the finish or to dry brush. I took acrylic white paint and dipped the paint brush lightly in it. Dabbed it off on paper towel until the brush was “dry” and brushed up and down along the board to get a light thin blotchy paint coat.

Once this drys I then add the hanging piece if you want to hang it on a wall. They have lots at Home Depot for photo frames.

For this particular board I just used twine and burlap. I took a ribbon of burlap and folded it over twice then I took twine and tided the middle to pinch it into a bow shape. I used wood glue but you can use a glue gun. And I attached it to the top corner. The twine I just wrapped around the board at the top and bottom leaving a little gap between each wrap. I pulled tight because this is what will hold the photo up.

Once I wrapped in a pattern I liked I glued it down and let it dry.

You can use many other things to make the photo boards your own! Ribbons of all kinds lace, cute gems or embellishments. Whatever style you are going for! I checked out the dollar stores and thrift stores for some cute items in their craft sections!
